Hello all and welcome to the Grabowski Lab! Please see the sections below regarding general information for working as an undergraduate or graduate student in our lab. Additionally, the open positions section at the bottom will be updated if there are jobs available! Please note that our lab does not take volunteers; all positions will be compensated.
Undergraduate Students
Interested students looking for research experience in marine ecology and fisheries biology are encouraged to contact us about potential volunteer positions, internship opportunities, and co-ops. The Grabowski Lab is located at the Marine Science Center in Nahant, Massachusetts. Transportation is provided from Northeastern’s main campus to the Marine Science Center Mon-Fri, 8-4 p.m.
Graduate Students
Please note that Northeastern University does not have a formal, thesis-based Master’s program. If you are interested in pursuing a PhD in my lab, please:
- Contact me via email with the following information – GPA, relevant coursework, research experience, and research interests.
- Go to the Northeastern University Graduate Studies website for application information for the Marine and Environmental Sciences program. Deadline: December 15.
- Begin thinking about potential independent funding sources for your research. Some potential ones include: National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship, Fastweb Scholarship Search, Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships.

Position title: Co-op student for a summer II/fall position
Who can apply: Northeastern undergraduate students.
Description: This position will assist with ongoing research in the Grabowski lab. The intern will primarily work on the effects of range expanding species such as black sea bass and blue crabs on the Gulf of Maine ecosystem, including juvenile lobsters. The work will involve processing samples in the lab, assisting with lab experiments and video processing. The student will also assist with ongoing sociological research on the groundfish and lobster industries. This research examines fisher ecological knowledge, perceptions, social capital, adaptive capacity, and social impacts. The position will also assist with other ongoing projects in the field and lab as needed.
Start Date: Either July 1 or September 1
End Date: December 2024
Hours/location: Work will be conducted primarily at the Nahant, MA campus and student will be required to work 32+ hours/week
